WORTH IT OR TRASH IT? | Why Hire Me for Your CONFERENCE HEADSHOTS

Professional Conference Headshots

CONFERENCE HEADSHOTS

Let’s talk about it. Here’s the deal, not all headshots are equal. I have MANY people tell me they do not like their current photo, or worse, they NEVER used the one taken at a recent conference or work event.

Let’s get into it….

TOP 5 REASONS WHY For NOT GREAT HEADSHOT EXPERIENCE

Here are the reasons clients have told me they won’t use them.

  1. Not Prepared: The attendee was unaware headshots were being offered, but wanted to give it a go. Their hair color is uneven, their complexion isn’t as smooth, makeup isn’t finished, and most importantly, they are not rested or hydrated.

  2. Lack of Photographer Experience: As the saying goes, you usually get what you pay for, so sometimes photographers are unsure how to handle the average person, or someone who is uncertain altogether. Knowing how to set someone at ease takes time to learn.

  3. Inaccurate Skin Tone: A person’s skin tone must be accurately represented. This can be a diffcitul thing to learn, but is a MUST. If it is inaccurate, the attendee won’t feel confident pushing to upload the headshot.

  4. Lack of Quality Setup: Not all light is equal. Attendees often do not know what color the backdrop will be and plan the wrong or same color for their wardrobe.

  5. Unsettled - Attendees can feel unsettled for many reasons. Anxiety about photos is often the reason why.

No need to fear, I’m here to help!!

5 SOLUTIONS For EXCEPTIONAL HEADSHOT EXPERIENCE

    1. Preparation: Event planners MUST communicate headshots are being offered AND I recommend showing the photographer’s samples that will represent what the attendee will experience & receive.

    2. Experience: Select a Photographer who can create the best photos possible. Review their full portfolio, looking at all types of headshots to make the best choice.

    3. Social Media: Review to ensure the photographer has a quality setup to see the options they offer & if that person would be a great fit for your project.

    4. Skin Tones: Find a photographer who works with a range of skin tones. All skin tones have ranges of yellows/blues/oranges/greens and so on. Authentic skin tones are important for a quality representation.

    5. From the Start: Your photographer can offer you solutions to help your attendees settle before the event. Happy to chat with you about what I offer to ensure this result!

TIE OR NO TIE? That is the Question

Tie or No Tie? This question is asked often in the studio & it’s a big deal! Here are a few considerations for this concern:

Start with your Authentic Preference

  • As with anything wardrobe piece, women in power heels for instance, some feel better and more confident in them. Is that true of you in a tie?

  • Do you like the way you look in a tie? Remember the Men’s Wearhouse tag line, “Your going to like the way you look, I guarantee it?” That sums it up.

Next is your Industry

  • For Wealth Advisors, Surgeons, Law and now I’m learning Pilots, ties are more common. That doesn’t mean some do not. I had a surgeon in and he opted for no tie.

  • Does your industry have those margins? If you are unsure, then I suggest asking your superior. If you are the superior, I suggest taking both options.

No Tie Headshot Rules

  • For a no tie look, I suggest a jacket that fits (Always), and first button secured option and one with it open. Remember that headsets are a tighter crop and while the secured button may not be viewed, it can appear more together for the overall look.f

  • It’s SUPER important yoru collar is fixed and strong, and equitable. I’m actually pretty passionate about collars and their presence in a photo. It’s KEY

TIE HEADSHOT RULES

  • Consider Eye Color: If you want to step into a color in your headshot, for tie or the backdrop, offer up that as an option. Especially if you have blue or hazel eyes, wow!

  • Leave your 80’s tie at home: With the strong graphics and lines, it’s best to choose something more modern, clean simple lines or patterns.

  • Bring options: With anything, bring a few options and let the professional pare a few. If you have a spouse that is talented with this, that is useful as well.

Overall, It’s vital to make the decision best for you, truly. If it doubt, take photos of both!

I leave you with a few of tie and no tie options for your review!!

5 Ways to Work Best with A College | DFW HEADSHOTS

Working with a College Brand either on Site or at one of their remote locations is usually a really fun job! Recently I’ve been able to work with Texas Tech University MBA program located in the DFW metroplex as an extension from Lubbock & Baylor University in the great city of Waco TX. Working with these colleges again is such an honor and we had a great time too!

Here are a few tips for success when working with colleges to get professional photos:

1. Understand the College’s Guidelines and Branding |. Colleges often have specific guidelines and branding requirements for professional photos. Make sure to understand their color schemes, logo placement, and overall aesthetic preferences. This ensures your photos align with the institution's brand identity and are suitable for use in marketing materials.

2. Communicate Your Vision Prior To Session

Discuss their goals and vision & provide them with details on what you want to achieve, the tone of the photos, and any specific shots or subjects you need. Clear communication helps avoid misunderstandings and ensures the results meet your expectations.

3. Schedule and Plan in Advance - Colleges are busy environments, so it’s essential to plan the shoot well in advance. Coordinate with the necessary departments, secure permissions if needed, and ensure all participants (students, staff, etc.) are informed about the schedule. This preparation minimizes disruptions and ensures the shoot runs smoothly.

4. Choose the Right Locations - Select locations on campus that align with the purpose of your photos. For professional shots, consider iconic campus spots, well-lit interiors, or outdoor areas with natural light. The right backdrop can enhance the quality and impact of your photos.

5. Authenticity Throughout the Session - Colleges prioritize authenticity, so it’s important to represent this in your photos. Include a mix of students, faculty, and staff from different backgrounds and ensure that the images reflect the college’s values and community. Emotions will need to be included as much as possible.

These tips will help you work effectively with colleges to produce professional and impactful photos.

How TO Headshots in a Different City | Abilene TX

OUT OF TOWN WORK |. when you get the opportunity to work in a new city, it’s super fun! However, when it’s on location where light, logistics and weather matter, then you gotta plan ahead!

Here’s a few tips for working in a new city for headshots or branding:

When taking headshots on-site in a new city, preparation and adaptability are key to capturing professional and authentic images. Here are three tips to ensure success:

1. Scout the Location in Advance

  • Why It’s Valuable: Familiarizing yourself with the location helps you identify the best spots for shooting, considering factors like lighting, background, and space.

  • How to Do It: Arrive the night before if you can, or have the client send phone photos.. Pay attention to natural light sources, possible distractions, and whether the location aligns with the professional tone you're aiming for. If possible, have a backup spot in case of weather changes or other unforeseen issues.

2. Adapt to Local Lighting Conditions

  • Why: Different cities can have varying weather conditions and lighting environments that can affect the outcome of your photos.

  • How to Do It: Be prepared to adjust your equipment settings or bring additional lighting gear. If natural light is too harsh, consider using diffusers or reflectors to soften it.

3. Use the Local Spaces

  • Why It’s Matters: Including subtle elements of the new city can give the headshots a unique touch and make them stand out while still remaining professional.

  • How to Do It: Look for background elements like city skylines, architectural features, or even local parks that can add character to the photos. However, ensure that these elements are not too distracting and that the focus remains on the subject. This is especially effective if the city is part of the company’s brand or identity.

These tips will help you navigate the challenges of working in a new city while ensuring the quality and professionalism of the headshots. It’s super fun to go to a new space and it’s a mystery sometimes. Creating fabulous photos is part of this job and I’m a fan!

4 TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE HEADSHOTS

PROFESSIONAL HEADSHOTS MATTER, but WHY

Everyone know your headshot is important and heck we are certain it will probably help our business! I’m here to reassure you that if I get the opportunity to photograph you, you will like your photo! If your conference is for your lead team, sales team or maybe your entire team, hire a professional for your headshots is a winning idea!

Attaining an authentic headshot requires energy and a little bit of time. My goal is to connect with you, help you with a few simple directions and take care of you. It’s important that your photo represents who you actually are, at your best! With six years in headshots, I understand what it takes to capture the photo you will use and be proud to share.

THOUGHTS ABOUT TIME

I understand that most conference headshots happen in short amount of time, so it’s my job to capture you at your best quickly. It can happen as quickly as 45 seconds or less, truly. I coach you into the best expression, a few options, and before you know it, it’s over!

It’s my job, the photographer, to make sure the lights are where they need to be, and ready to highlight your best features. I remind clients that you are really good at what you do, and thankfully so. The only thing I do is take photos for my job, so lucky you, I’m pretty decent at it!

DO AND DON’TS

  1. Bring clothes that are in the colors that flatter you and fit you. Those are the best options!

  2. JEWELRY - keep it understanded for the most part. Earrings should be ear aware, so closer to the ear lobe.

  3. Makeup - NO highlighting powder or self tanner within 48 hours.

  4. Avoid wine and alcohol. Hydrate with water so your skin looks its best!

  5. Fix your collar. A great collar goes a long ways, so make sure to sort that out.

  6. Comb your hair.

  7. Trim your beard - straightforward but make sure it’s even too!

  8. Remove Unnecessary Facial Hair - ears and nose

  9. Avoid low cut tops ladies.

  10. Choose a shirt that has a simple pattern or solid. The goal is to bring focus to your face

  11. Bring a tie if you are unsure. We can do one with and one without.

  12. Make sure your clothes are not overly wrinkly if possible.

BACKDROP OPTIONS

While the client can choose the backdrop color, I make my best effort to make sure the attendees know if at all possible. Unless HQ has a certain color otherwise, I will offer Grey or White backgrounds. All skin tones can be flattering on either.

IF THERE IS A WAIT IN LINE

My goal is to never have a line, but it happens. Take that time to straighten your necklace, organize your shirt so it lays flat against your chest, which might mean tucking it in tighter, and refreshing your makeup.

WHEN IT’S YOUR TURN

  1. I’ll introduce myself, Emily and direct you to your space to stand.

  2. You can choose to face the camera straight or turn a bit. Either way your face will face the camera straight.

  3. Maintain good posture and breathe. Many clients can hold their breath and not even realize it.

  4. Pretend I’m pulling your nose to the camera to bring your face to me, and elongate your neck a bit. Then bring your chin down a little.

That action will also open up your eyes more!

  5. Hands can rest on the top of your thighs or sides of your body. You can place your thumbs in pant pockets too. Whatever feels comfy there.

  6. Be prepared for a few coaching tips which may sound like the person before you or may be different. Each face varies in the strength I want to showcase so it’ll take a bit to get you there. The goal is an authentic expression which for some is a smile and others is more serious.

  7. Your eyes might want to drift, but focusing on the lens of the camera is best.

My goal for you headshot isn’t to look perfect or a cheesy smile. My energy will be focused on who you actually are, and how I can capture that. Making effort to prepare and ready yourself for the best tradeshow or conference headshot is valuable!

For large companies, headshots are essential for several reasons:

  1. Brand Consistency and Professionalism

This consistency helps strengthen the company's brand identity and instill confidence in clients, partners, and stakeholders.

  2. Humanizing the Culture of your Brand

In the eyes of the public, big corporations can sometimes seem impersonal or faceless. Headshots provide a human element by putting faces to the company's workforce. This humanization fosters trust and relatability, making the company more approachable and appealing to customers and potential employees alike.

  3. Employee Recognition

Headshots showcase the individuals behind the company's success. WHY YOU NEED HEADSHOTS FOR AN ENERGY COMPANY | PITTMAN POWER | FRISCO TX HEADSHOTS

happy professionals headshots

FRISCO TEXAS HEADSHOTS | PITTMAN POWER

Great people, great session! We had a great time chatting and actually laughing, all while trying to be semi quiet! This crew made my job easy! Thankful for amazing clients who trust me everyday!

I believe this was the first time this team had met in person, so here’s a few reasons why it’s a great idea to do new headshots when y’all are together!

When your team is remote, investing in team headshots remains essential for several reasons:

  1. Visual Identity

In a remote work setting, team members often communicate primarily through digital channels. Having professional headshots creates a visual identity for your remote team, helping to humanize interactions and foster a sense of connection among distributed team members. This is especially important in environments where face-to-face interaction is limited.

  2. Building Trust

Remote work can sometimes create a sense of distance or anonymity among team members. Professional headshots allow remote colleagues to put faces to names, which can help build trust and rapport within the team. Seeing the faces of their coworkers reinforces a sense of camaraderie and belonging, even when team members are physically distant.

  3. Enhancing Communication

Clear communication is crucial in remote teams. Including headshots in email signatures, virtual meeting platforms, and collaboration tools provides visual cues that can enhance communication. When team members can associate names with faces, it can streamline communication and reduce misunderstandings, leading to more effective collaboration.

  4. Personalization

Remote work can sometimes feel isolating, especially for new team members who may not have had the opportunity to meet their colleagues in person. Team headshots add a personal touch to remote work environments, helping team members feel more connected and valued as individuals within the team.

  5. Professional Branding

Just like in traditional workplaces, remote teams benefit from professional branding. Consistent and high-quality headshots contribute to a polished and cohesive brand image, whether on the company website, social media profiles, or marketing materials. Professional headshots convey professionalism and competence, helping to strengthen the overall brand reputation, even in a remote context.
